Here's a quick update on what's happening at One Church. Barry Crum and KJ just went to a Multiplication Lab at Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro where they spend time with other church planters across North Carolina and learned more about developing and multiplying leaders and church planters.
Slow and steady. That is the mantra for rural church ministry in our experience. (Every church and ministry is different!) That's just what we've been doing. We're continuing Bible Studies through the book of Ephesians on Tuesday nights in Kinnakeet Village Park. The park is across the street from a popular restaurant in Avon and there are normally families playing in park while waiting for their tables. We also have many coming and going on the sidewalk, all who get to hear us worshipping the Lord. KJ and Sharon are continuing to build relationships with those around them and trying to find ways to serve the community.
KJ is making contacts for the chaplain ministry, having reached out to Emergency Management in Dare County, and several of the local emergency organizations. As I write this, he is sitting in our living room talking to someone who has been serving the island faithfully in an emergency services capacity, and is also interested in joining the chaplain ministry.
We are excited to have added another partner church, Fairview, in Reidsillve NC, and are so thankful for each of you that are walking alongside us on this journey. It's so exciting that God is calling others to walk alongside us to reach this island and these people we already love so much.
We ask that you continue to pray for a location so that we can meet inside so that weather and bugs won't be a hinderance. We have a ton of children (sometimes they out number the adults!). We are actively praying that God will send someone with a heart for Children's ministry so that they will have someone called by God to pour into them and teach them the scriptures.
I also want to take time to share a praise. Many of you have been praying for our friend Ms. Stephanie. She was one of the first people we met on the island and we have prayed over her back surgery in the past. Through a bunch of different circumstances, God has worked it all out so that she (and her husband) has moved into the other half of our duplex! What a blessing!
